| Pierre and Charlotte Julien moved from Paris to Melbourne where in 1994 they established their design studio and workshop. In the Melbourne studio they set about developing their first collection of furniture and lighting, strongly influenced by previous years experience in Tokyo and Paris where they had worked in the creative disciplines of music, fashion, set design, painting and furniture restoration.
It was in the early days of the practice that Pierre and Charlotte evolved and honed their design principle to seek practicality and function in all their designs, while maintaining the artistic mission of being original even in the most simple of forms. From this principle they have created a unique range of furniture and lighting that is often described as distinctively Australian.
The range has expanded over the years and many pieces from the original collection are still in production today. All of Pierre and Charlotte’s designs are manufactured in Australia either in their own workshop or in collaboration with local craftsmen. In production they have used a wide variety of materials and processes often designing in a refreshingly unconventional way. Their timber furniture and upholstery pieces are made from a range of timbers, American Oak or Walnut being the predominant ones, both highly esteemed timbers that exhibit beautiful grain while providing excellent strength and stability. Pierre and Charlotte’s attention to detail in both the design and manufacturing of pieces and the perfection of their polishing techniques has meant their product is renowned for its high quality of craftsmanship and design.
Pierre and Charlotte’s work is used in both domestic and commercial projects. The approach is always to work collaboratively with clients with design recommendations tailored to suit each project or client. Along with domestic interiors the commercial projects completed include:

In October 2007 Pierre and Charlotte took the exciting step of opening their Sydney showroom, this is in collaboration with Peter St Hill a long term colleague with many years experience in design and retail.
It is envisaged the Sydney showroom will enable Pierre and Charlotte to work closer with their growing client base in NSW.
